Beef / Lamb & Pig Price Tracker

I'm not saying that doesn't happen but my experience is that they are checked at slaughter and any sheep with adult teeth up will be split and spinal cord removed. As you can imagine, this is significantly more work for the abattoir. It is, of course, a complete waste of time but if they don't do it and this is discovered by the onsite vet then they will face enforcement action.
I do talk to people but I’m not a one for putting negative things on here. As usual the farmer or auction has to pay for something ridiculous. I agree it is enforced on the whole but another con really

Your better off declaring them if they are I've had a phone call that evening before to say some are toothers and I would get paid less for them. Was a fair price for them but did look like I was trying it on (I wasn't!)
Fair enough though if they are toothers I hadn't checked them myself because I didn't think it was early enough and no one else was checking so never thought about it. the market staff didn't check either probably thinking the same as me but the buyer did check. I think it was in March so plenty early enough for it
It's a stupid rule but it's
Yes, its a daft rule esp when toothers make more in with cull ewes! I hadn't checked mine so wasn't being dishonest or trying it on but guess there was plenty of demand on the day so they needed them whatever!

Agreed.
But if grass fed cattle are leaving a better margin with inputs going mad, it's my job to make a profit not feed the nation.
I agree with what your saying but most people wouldn't have the acres at home to do it, when people talk about mixed farming in arable areas they automatically think about sheep, grazing cattle would be far more sensible and let's be honest there's enough sheep in the country
