With Haulage not often much change out of £40 DW. DOn't know the commission LW, but guessing 3.5% so £45 plus levies not including my time to haul him in (I'm quite local), stand about and chat, see him sold, Bacon sandwich unless @Goneupthehill has a day out to see me sell him and gets a round in :)
All in ( excluding clipping ) is about £50 head from here to the North East for deadweight

North East Devon, or North East England? Cost me £17-22 sometimes more for sub 6 collection. That is from Carlisle to Scotbeef/Dawn(Ulverston)/Dunbia/Linden

I saw two jasper 6 wheelers and drags heading back from N-Devon yesterday, stuffed with what was presumably lambs from Smolton, wish us farmers had a consistent benchmark to aim for instead of it being like a day on the stock markets..

Yeh molton and i imagine cutcombe,
I had live lambs in cutcombe,
They usually pick up DW lambs at the same time.

Had a heads up when phoned to book some lambs in for next week...that the trade is going to be quite a bit down due to lots of new zealand coming in and cant book any in for next week ,anyone else heard this...

Looks like you are correct about the lamb job.

Txt from the collection centre, NO collection of lambs on Monday but possible be one on Wens but prices wont be given until Mon night so they are clearly expecting a massive drop in the lamb price on Monday.... ( which could well be between £7/10 head at least it sounds like )

Cull cows for Mon are up 5pk..

One thing I don't like is why market reports and the bodies in charge in general, call lambs after January 'hoggs' and 'old season lamb'. Not exactly promoting the product. Especially the old season bit. Makes the spring lamb in New Zealand more appealing imo to joe public.

Wow what a store cattle and store lamb trade for the first market in 2017......

Store cattle,

A tight entry of only 380 cattle with some exceptional runs of well bred cattle sold to a Blistering trade, many many purchasers went home empty handed and trade was easily UP £100/150 head on pre xmas markets, prices of note were some superbly well bred/ farmed suckler Char steers making between £1400 and £1440 head which is both far higher than their value on the hook and more importantly the highest store cattle price at sedgemoor for 12 months at least and defo since the new weight limits came in! also price of note was a Fri steer at £1000 head, many many pens of feeding steers at £1100 head and many many pens of feeding heifers just shy of a £1000 head, interestingly many small fat and older cattle were making £1000 head + and these cattle were making far more than what they are worth on the hook..

Numbers will be short for Jan and trade is red hot, get those feeding cattle/ fat cattle TB tested and get them thru the ring and make the most of this red hot trade and don't forget by putting your fat cattle thru the store ring you will avoid paying that pesky AHDB tax ( sorry levy )..

Stirks, a super entry of mixed sorts, all cattle were well up on pre xmas levels and trade got dearer as the day went on, price of note are some super suckler Bred char steers at £895 head and some useful BBx steers which were small but super conformation at £700 head, also a superb Lim bull at 10 months old that is suitable for breeding made an impressive £995..

Calves, a useful entry of nearly 500 head sold to a mixed trade, 2nd grade and poorer calves sold to a stand on trade as previous weeks, strong BBX bulls would be anywhere from £260/ 330 head, Fri calves were in strong demand and a super BF calve made £161, reared Fri calves were also badly sought and plenty up/ down of £200 head..

Store lambs, WOW what a TRADE, some super runs of lambs in the market sold around £5 less than they will be worth on the hook if they were fit today ( on last weeks prices ) and if the fat price drops like expected net week then many lambs around the £63/65 mark will be only worth this amount on the hook at best, all in all trade would easily be up £5 head on pre xmas levels and many vendors were saying that it was the dearest trade of the store lamb season to date..

Sell live to thrive.

150 hoggs averaged 173.5p/kg today at Newark. Happy looking at the posts above:banghead:
I was a bit disappointed with ours - we were averaging 173.6p until the last pen of 47kg only did 157.4p(same hoggs, same meat just a touch bigger) Finished up leveling at 169.06p. But as you say it doesn't look good for the immediate future.
Time to shut up shop for a while.

NOT impressed with the new deduction for Antemortem though:mad: - that's 6 deductions (not counting the vat) off the gross figure now:mad:.
