Yet again another massive entry of cull ewes at nearly 1800 head penned today at Sedgemoor.

But 90% of them were not really cull ewes but big well fleshed ewes that still had plenty of life left in them..

Very very rare to see so many sheep of such high quality/ young ages in the cull pens like today!

It always amazes me where these ewes keep coming from

I would have thought they had lambed early down there and sold the lambs and killed the ewes.

I went to Telford just before one of the Muslim festivals last summer, there where fields there full and I mean full of cull ewes, all sorted into grade by the looks of it. Fields of best texels right down to dire Welsh things. They must have been pitstocks waiting for there big day.

Yea I’ve heard that, but I meant farmers fields, you can drive from here to wales and barley see a field of any livestock

A lot of big flocks here, we have 1500 ewes and are one of the small ones now, 2 estates next door have 3800 and 5000 each. A lot of cull ewes.

Only place inhave ever seen plenty fields of bullocks n heifers is Aberdeen, quite rare the rest of the time .

We went to cardigan last year and it was so nice to see dairy cattle all around how it used to be around us when I was a nipper

Yes and there’s us carting silage cake and beet for months on end I always think about that

What’s their set up are they buying gimmers and selling them as shearlings or are they on right through as ewes ?

They got Romney and Romney cross ewes.

I’m not sure how they crop, lambs look better than mine though. They have started to put exlarna on them.

Alot of the bigger sheep places up here have romneys.

They had 1800 romenys here at one time but did them to well, ended up fat a mud, didn’t have enough lambs a lost a massive amount to prolapses and cast. They got rid and replaced with 3000 dry mule gimmers.
