Years ago I was at longtown in April or May an older fella off the west coast of Scotland appeared with some of the best Cheviot and Texel hoggs you could wish to see, he brought them every year. I went over for a bit crack with him I asked him how he had come on with them, he said he made his money off caravans didn’t like caravans but liked sheep he couldn’t remember or care what he paid for them or what they cost him it made no odds
What a good way to farm get rid of the financial aspect of it all

Welcome to the world of pedigree sheep selling , so many using the job as a hobby against other things , some of these rams you see sold have so much top quality feed poured into them , never cover their costs
 
I’m a lot younger than you and I’ve seen it implode enough times to be very wary of getting over excited
Without sounding old I’ve seen a bit of the good years in farming that was in the 80’s it’s not been anything like that since
In fact I will go a bit further and say it’s not been any use since then especially if you start comparing like for like
