Years ago I was at longtown in April or May an older fella off the west coast of Scotland appeared with some of the best Cheviot and Texel hoggs you could wish to see, he brought them every year. I went over for a bit crack with him I asked him how he had come on with them, he said he made his money off caravans didn’t like caravans but liked sheep he couldn’t remember or care what he paid for them or what they cost him it made no odds
What a good way to farm get rid of the financial aspect of it all

To be honest with you it’s right through the whole farming industry. Something I’ve mentioned here for years

I worry the job will implode , but lot people are confident ,,, in my youmger days saw so many collapses of trade my confidence is not strong .. you kick a dog once to often he becomes shy .

Would you say margins are a lot better on your store lambs or is a lot of the gain being eaten up ?

I would definitely be cashing them! I had thought about keeping the mules to flesh up abit but glad i didnt.

Without sounding old I’ve seen a bit of the good years in farming that was in the 80’s it’s not been anything like that since
In fact I will go a bit further and say it’s not been any use since then especially if you start comparing like for like

Never seen ewes as dear at longtown! Them lambing disasters maby wernt so bad afterall.

Opposite here at Cirencester, poorest trade iv seen for a long time, no bidding from the buyers. I had £130 for very big string Suffolk crosses and £115 very fit big for mules, would have been £20 more 6 weeks ago. Grazing ewes where in the £80’s.

I put cows out early one year 17th of June it came a blizzard and put them back in afore dark
