Yes and not even a big entry of bulls eitherProbably due to all the suckler herds going
Was just watching at dinner time. Got one at the last saleDid you go or just watched a bit same as me?

I’ve got an older bull here I’ve been spending a bit of time with keeping him going when I watched that I thought they were surprisingly cheap compared to what I was expecting him to cost to replaceWas just watching at dinner time. Got one at the last sale
What’s he looking like the one you bought? Was just watching at dinner time. Got one at the last sale
I think it's always a strange time to have a sale. And ringside looked sparse, I wonder why
At a busy time you meanI think it's always a strange time to have a sale.
Usually the dearest in mayI think it's always a strange time to have a sale.
Yes, a lot of potential buyers can't make it.At a busy time you mean
I was told by a top Charolais man that bulls were costing £5k to get them to saleSome I watched that had the breeding and looked the part still were making a decent price
As you say if you were there they probably wouldn’t look as cheap but looked like you could easily pick a bull up yesterday
I was told by one of the breeders a couple of years ago that they needed £3500 to get anywhere for a bull prepared and sold at association sales not sure if that’s right or wrong but if it was right that will be more now and plenty were sold or passed yesterday for that or less
Takes at least a year for a bull to become acclimatised to your farm and weaned off ad lib hard feedI wonder if nowadays when they are boiled up so much folk would rather buy in Feb and get them acclimatised before turning them out into the big wide world
Quite likely that is. There’s a few of them folks selling/breeding bulls that aren’t on as severe as of a ration that they could be they include a bit more silage those bulls aren’t boiled as badly and don’t loose as much ground. A lot will be the other way on and those bulls will take handling at home. Folks get to know as time goes on those more sensibly fed have seen a more solid trade in some waysI wonder if nowadays when they are boiled up so much folk would rather buy in Feb and get them acclimatised before turning them out into the big wide world
