Beef / Lamb & Pig Price Tracker

See what hexham friday brings bet they no cheaper
Maybe not no. Although I don’t like being on the receiving end of a price drop it’s no good to us if the next man can’t make anything out of them. That’s when the job crashes. There’s a bit of a lack of confidence creeping in at the moment which is worrying to me. There will be cattle bought a few months ago which will now look £200 too dear. We can’t expect cattle sold now to be any dearer in the circumstances with one thing and another. I’m hearing of cattle that are usually grazed through the summer being sold now due to concerns later. Also the change from demand from beef joints to mince means that older heavy dairy bred cattle may look more attractive than beef types at the moment. Just thinking out loud

In my opinion quality always sells, and ERLs heifers certainly look quality. We had same problem last week due to Covid restrictions, trying to put a value on our 10 month British blue steers (suckler bred). Father and I said they’d got to be minimum £800 (less than we’d normally value them due to Covid) rang auctioneer who said we might be a bit too high and should look for around £750, we then didn’t know what to do, ended up sending them and they made £900. Sent a limmy heifer 18m old at same time (nice animal but not in same league as ERLs) and it made £965 so I would say they’ve got to be over the £1000 mark.

Apparently Burger King opened a drive thru in the Portsmouth area today...

And there was a queue over half a mile long of cars with the drivers desperate to get a burger.

.....

Which was the same on Sat at Sedge with the meat lorry back after missing last week and at 9 am there was a queue of over 100 cars waiting to buy meat and this carried on all day until 3 pm when the last car boot was filled up with meat!
