Mate has a haulage business and we were out with them for grub last night.
He was saying there’s firms with many lorries parked up due to driver shortages
Sounds like firms are poaching each other’s drivers mainly supermarkets being the guilty parties
One lad was telling him he was getting £1150 per week
Headline in the Daily Mail about how much waitrose drivers were on, think they were outraged that the drivers would be able to afford to shop in the store!! 😂😂

Yes. Holidays, folk leaving for other jobs, covid.
Several abattoirs have relied on EU workers in their factories ..A combination of brexit and covid restrictions have dramatically limited the number of skilled foreign workers in the UK ..unfortunately there seems a lack of skills within our workforce and a reluctance to take such jobs ..this problem can only get worse before it gets resolved

Agreed with the effect it’s having on the pig and poultry sector beef is bound to be next. I wonder if the sheep side slightly less so, more independent Asian owned outfits, I assume employing a fair percentage of their own?

It's a small world, apparently one driver never turned in, Helers sold the milk on, our tanker driver was asked to pick 4 of the farms up after doing his normal 2 runs, he said the one farm refused to let him have it, would rather tip it down the drain.
Just been back the yard and apparently hellars have begged them not too pull the plug on the tank because so many suppliers have they’re now short on milk for production 🤦‍♂️ Apparently a man on a fasttrac dragging an artic tanker been running all night and day picking milk up will be here between 5 and 6 🙈🙈🙈

Boris said in July he was going to make adjustments for food processing but maybe that was to do with track and trace?
I read there wouldn’t be a review of which jobs classed as essential on the visa list until next year, and Priti Patel who is in charge made it clear the workforce needed to come from within, relaxing the new immigration rules already would be counterproductive long term. Wait until she can’t get her turkey...
