if all the farmers done that there would be nart to stack in Tesco's :ROFLMAO:

seriously its easy to say to someone else "go do something else" but its what we do and in many cases invested years/decades in it and yes before anyone chirps up I know we are not owed a living but that don't change the fact

The coal miners and the steel workers had all done it for generations too, all producing commodity products that were essential... :(

One day I really do hope the public wake up and realise that farmers do so much work for the countryside and feed people all these governments want is control that includes food it’s a massive agenda all this green crap and I won’t be told any different by anyone it’s an absolute disgrace what they are doing a programme on tv about human cells making meat what the hell do they think will happen with all that it’s like Jeffrey dahmers wet dream! Absolutely disgusting and the sooner the wef and bill gates suffer the better with what they are trying to do ! Anyone getting out of farming tbh doesn’t suprise me now it’s the saddest I’ve felt with the whole world and what’s going on !

In the main they were workers, same as farm workers they drew a wage and went home, when its your business, livelihood, home and in some cases life and very often a one person band with family help, its different, you may not think that but that's the way I look at it.
someone who owns and runs a corner shop and has done for years/decades would be a better comparison

with attitudes and views like that- no wonder people have a chip on their shoulder regarding the farming industry . Go say that in a mine village .

I don't think that's fair, stopping coal production has decimated communities in the South Wales valleys. Coal miners and their families made up whole towns and villages and once it was taken away what had they left. Undoubtedly it has it's problems but taking away a primary industry such as that so we can import it from Russia etc has had very few benefits from what I can see. There are many parallels.

I agree that taking the coal mining industry decimated communities but in all fairness I think 30 yrs on the communities have lived through that and surely they now have a better quality of life.
I have relations who are truly thankful that they had opportunities rather than the only prospect in life was going down a coal mine like their fathers and grandfathers.

Likewise I have relations who are truly thankful they got ouf of farming into an alternative life ...but that was easier to do as they didn't live in a community where the only option was to stick at what their ancestors did .

I've played a lot of rugby in those valleys over the years. I don't think you could say they are much better off....the welfare state has taken over well and truly now thought, generations of families now.

Many places like that in central Scotland. When the mines closed everyone went on the social. Generations of people know nothing else. Hard workers dumped without any thought as to what they were supposed to do

It hasn't the potential to pay many bills!
Keep thinking about selling some stores but somewhere I need to recoup the loss of bps and selling lambs at £70-80 isn’t going to do that. Will have to try and make up the shortfall with what the finisher would normal make out of it. Trouble with this plan is over half my aftermaths still has the silage attached to them.
