I don’t think you’ll be feeding any then

I'm not sure we'll get the trade you get in the North. As others have said there seems to be a ceiling of £1k off the cow. And that would be for the best though I may be wrong this year. Not sure any of mine are at that level this year anyway. Nice square calves but not the shape of some years. This bunch of heifers would be around the 320kg mark now.

Always the half dozen without the best shape that drag the average sale price down, if we could produce all the calves as good as our top 10% ones the job would be childs play.

I often think ' if hadn't taken that last one or two my average would be up where it ought to be ' .....but they got to go !

This is where I see them, I know some of the best might make £1100 but if I want to average that it takes some doing. And I could feed them into £1700 by 13/14 months so just weighing up options.
Nice animals, where abouts are you ? they wouldn't ave 1100 here for sure probably get 900 though as you say,
you only have to look on here to see why a lot of animals go north
milk and honey up there milk and honey :giggle:

Great show of calves, what weights do you think they are?

Be around 320kg now, I like them to come off the cows at 350 -380kg heifers usually mid November weather allowing. Bulls should average nearer 430kg off the cows. I've another bunch of heifers with a touch more shape but might be 20kg lighter.
Very nice calves...if you were down here they be in the top 5% problem is i can think of 4/5 that used to produce calves of that quality but the have retired or given up
