I agree….if I was an arable man I’d be planting every acre

Someone on the crop tracker thread has been quoted £137 ton for barley,

Winter Barley straw delivered SW is apparently now being quoted at £140 ton

Surely that is the first time in history straw has been dearer than grain.

Maybe we should grow barley which produces loads of straw and no grain then!

trouble is manufactures bought forward to cover , takes 12months for prices to reflect grain cost
some buy spot and will have a market advantage for a while .

Yes that’s fair enough however eventually it should reflect the price but never does

I can remember paying £60 a tonne for barley and I’m sure the straw was around the same price or more because I remember making the comment it would be cheaper bedding them up with barley

What do you feed the lambs? ( if you do at all )

Cheapest option that works, For me it is whole oats in 20 kg batch plus 3/4 kg Soya, 1/2 kg Course mix plus maybe 1/4 kg High Vit minerals. Have tried (unsucessfully) to add a drizzle (posh way) of molasses blend. Shovel mix.
Easy way is half fill 5kg buckets add half the protein etc, top up to weight add rest of pretein etc and fill into bags. Is adequately mixed going in to troughs.
If cost Oats at £150/tonne, recon mix is about £190 ish a tonne.

I feed mine whole barley and wheat with milled beans and minerals just mix it up with JCB bucket 10 tons at a time.

Maybe finished cutting up the imported stuff. If dunbia is 6.85 then abp needs to be 7 as they weigh better at dunbia I find.
