Yes uts the reason why farming is going through the mess it is now. If it wasn't for gwp100 no one would have ever thought of getting rid of the cattle and sheep because they would be able to see that they aren't a problem.
I tried to get gwp100/gwp* onto the agenda for the Welsh protests but it got so far and then sort of fizzled out. I think no one really understands it so they ignore it because they think it's a load of sh!t. Some people who were quite enthusiastic about it asked me to do a video explaining it it's somewhere on Facebook and tiktok 🙈 but it still didn't really register with people.
I spoke to a man here cutting hedges a few weeks ago about your video who’s also a vocal member of a the enough is enough group and he looked at me with bemusement when I mentioned it. Staggering the amount of people who
Just don’t get it.

Too many people just take it for granted that the stuff we get told is fact. When someone says differently they say "ah but you would say that".
I can understand it in a way, but when farmers themselves can't be bothered to question what they are being beaten with because they can't be bothered it amazes me, this is far more important than almost anything else to us just now, we should be shouting down the lies not apologising for our industry.

We live in a ‘post truth’ age.

Frightening, but true.

Absolutely we could (should?) do it if they did it right. But it's in no one's interest but ours to do it through GWP-star but ours.
If we were allowed to use GWP-star and add in what the grass sequestered we would find out most grassland farms had spare carbon to offset something else. It could be very valuable.
We will struggle to get it though. Governments want our carbon and biodiversity net gain through their sustainable farming schemes, supermarkets want it through their assurance schemes with their greener farms Commitment. There's a thread on gfc you should read it they're basically trying to make you give it to them through red tractor.
And hardly anyone has noticed yet. The British farming Union on here and the national sheep association are the only unions I know fighting this it's a bloody disgrace how we're being treated.
Yep with GWP* all the drivel about cattle/sheep causing global warming falls apart.
The reason they will not adopt GWP* is they will lose their scape goat.

Apparently he reckons its ‘we’
Who’s this we that’s farming the land?
The bloke talks in riddles. On one hand he, and his fellow Countryfile gang, bang on about 'modern farming practices' being bad and now he wants us to get more from what we're already farming - that, Mr Heap, is called intensification.

Make your mind up.

Anybody for a beef feedlot? - Tom Heap says it's the way to go (apparently).

All the time the UN and IPCC use GWP100 it is very difficult to get our government/processors/buyers/RT to use GWP*.
Not impossible, but a bit like turning round a super tanker.
We just have to keep shouting about it. If we don't we'll just get sacrificed on the false altar of net zero.

Farmers aren't (as some jumped up politician said the other day) Climate Change Deniers.
What we DO deny though, is, it's not all our fault.

If people are seriously intent on reducing global warming, they should stop digging up fossil fuel and burning it.

🤦
It's easy to moan (rightly so) about thr sfs, NVZ's and TB but without sorting the use of GWP-star we won't get anywhere.
There is no incentive for government to sort them out because gwp100 = cows bad. Get rid of them.
No reason to sort tb because it helps get rid of cows, make NVZ's more strict and harder to stick to the rules so its harder to keep cattle so farmers keep less, pay farmers to plant trees to get rid of more cows. This is in Wales in particular now but its all over the world as well.
It's all come from gwp100. It's never been accurate and no one has questioned it. Just go along with it apologising for having cows and talking about feeding them bloody seaweed to try and stop their burps ffs.

New Zealand are using GWP-STAR. Their red meat and dairy levy boards presented it to cop25 or 26 in Glasgow and got it accepted. There's no reason we couldn't do it either.
Sorry that was meant in reply to @kfpben

Can you put a link to gfc please
Not read it all but had a skim of it I think that will tell you what you need to know. Just remember it was thought up by the British retail consortium ( read that as supermarkets) and the corrupt bunch of pansies at the World Wildlife Fund who are now headed by an ex tesco boss. They talk about the British food industry and includes us apparently well no one asked us. It's all what the supermarkets want. They want our carbon to meet their commitments and they want it for free.

Rubbish 2 years ago grain prices went to nearly £300 a ton on the back of low fert prices to grow it.

The sheep trade 2 years ago did not jump anything like the grain price did.

Straw now is worth a fortune, £150 ton + delivered in the SW yet arable farmers cannot be bothered to bale it and would rather chop it so that is £150 acre + chucked out the back of the combine as its too much work to bale it/ stack and load the straw... 1000 acre arable farm that equals £150,000 thrown away yet you say they need more help than sheep farmers in the form of subs.... aye right:rolleyes:

Yep sheep prices have been okay the last 2 months but that is off the back of some very low prices the last 4/5 years!
