Averaged £71 last year, buyers have doubled their money on them, fancy myself £90+ if this trade holds
I doubled my money on some stores and went back to the farmer the next year and he wouldnt sell me any as i had made to much , the fact i owned them 2 times longer than him and through winter months cut no ice so i had to go else where …. I was taken aback shall we say .

He’s had to keep the mother’s all year though. Short sighted of the farmer I would say though,as long as you had increased your offer from the previous year . Always good to have a regular buyer.

petty, some people like that.

I sold some cheap straw last Autumn ex field. I'm pleased the buyer has done well.

But will put the price up this year.

So what is everyone's theory on what is causing these record hogget prices? I've heard a theory that it is the Houthi rebels disrupting shipping meaning the NZ product is going to take too long to get to the UK ahead of Easter & EID so the retailers are panicking and stocking up on UK produce?
Or is it simply supply and demand from reduced UK flock and lack of hoggets coming to the market in a wet winter?
