Someone must be losing a lot of money in that case ie New Zealand sheep farmers. Not heard any complaints though from our NZ posters?

needs to be, 25 kg carcase, £200
They were always going dear this spring due to last year’s low numbers but I think a perfect storm has occurred. I didn’t see them going to such highs. Hopefully it lasts a few weeks as I have some on roots that are a bit off yet.

People saying they were cheap last year. True enougth, but they rallied right at the end of the season.

My neighbour who is also my second cousin. Likes a really easy simple system, rents some land out for others to mow & bale, some to graze with cattle & some to reseed plus some to grow root crops on. Buys a load of small lambs October & sells in April/May off grass, low input & usually a good output.

I prefer to breed, closed flock etc, we are all different.

I think the Houthi thing must be having an impact. Likely a one off year I would say
Container ships from New Zealand to the UK go by Cape Horn,so dont go in the Red Sea or through the Suez canal.

Unless they are unloading at other ports on the journey.

It takes about 7 weeks,so if any NZ lamb is coming here,it would be all planned well in advance.

All this talk of what stores will be the autumn and current trade being through the roof which is fantastic but I feel for the guys round here who've had an absolutely kicking with Schmallenberg. Spoke to a man today who has 250 ewes in a field with no lambs on as a result. And heard from a reliable source of another man who lambs big numbers, who's put 1100 lambs in the dead bin. It's seems several round here have had as bad a lambing as they can remember as a result of it. The strange thing is the inconsistency because you then get a man just down the road from someone who's really suffered and they haven't lost a lamb with it. Bizarre.
