What was the extensification on ? And how much
Extensification payment was a payment paid to keep stocking levels down below a certain livestock unit , I think it was one unit per acre. You could also get it by not claiming on all 'cards' ie ,with steers just claim on the green and sell on the blue or if you were getting suckler cow premium then ,at the time, it would have paid to sell on the green to get a higher level of Extensification payment . This was all controlled by how many foragec acres you had to put your claim against .
....however, as @Hilly said earlier it all came back to bite those that claimed it as when your historic payments came jn to play it meant that your 'set' payment was disadvantaged and you would have been better off claiming on all cards .
The slaughter premium eventually got to £50 a head up the animals had to be on your holding for a minimum of 8 wks . It was a good thing . We used to buy cattle on a red card keep for 8 weeks minimum and put into the fat , it worked well ,especially in the summer when you could get them fat enough by running into the shed every day for a sniff of barley.

Some Hauliers have had to up their insurance to cover what the value of the load is.
Shipments of New Zealand lamb have dropped to a third this last three months due to the troubles with the direct shipping route through the Suez canal. It's costing 20 more times the financial cost to insure the cargo. A big factor in the bouyant lamb trade. 1800 tons instead of 5500 tons.
