Being as its the first of March.
I'm sure British Sugar would like us to start drilling.....!
Anyone started yet.

(We haven't lifted last year's yet🤐)

I know @Breckland Boy likes an early beet thread 😉😄

No seed on site, base fert not spread, lime not spread, sheep still on brassica mix, not finished my drill project either.
Also have a 10ha patch where the water table is above ground level. Probably won't dry out until July which will then be a late beet thread.

And beet on the open price contract has fallen from £40 to £36….. though I doubt BS care as they would prefer it if we didn’t have this option

Closed at £34 yesterday.

The metrics behind how the futures market algorithm works doesn’t appear to be very clear and transparent.

If the trajectory continues we’ll be at a negative beet price before long

The futures market was fixed by British Sugar.

I’ve worked back the calculation from where the beet price closed on 31st August, where the market is now, and what has happened to the beet futures price. British Sugar reset the calculation behind the beet price so that they paid £40/t on the opening day, so effectively they took £14/t off the futures beet price. I posted it to a beet growers WhatsApp, nobody has disproved my workings?

Edit: they also changed which futures market they track from no 5 to no11. It’s a bit tricky to work out and I’m happy to take corrections!

TBF they said that's what would happen several times. So i'm not annoyed, my criticism is that it seems a little over sensitive.

For interest; how did everyone that didn’t use Cruiser last year get on in another high infection forecast year?

I assume the fact the majority of the crops were treated help the crops that weren’t but equally I don’t remember hearing lots of YV issues on the continent like we did in 2020? Someone correct me if Im wrong but dont think any of mainland europe still has a derogation?
