horrible noise in first and second gear.....can't get those gears on the move.......3rd gear fine.....clutch?...thrust bearing?

If it was clutch all gears would be a problem. More than likely to be a selector in box.
Fit a good s/h box and new clutch kit while your in there

sounds more like syncro gone, definatley not clutch but as above fit one while out, second hand box should be very reasonable.

None, I think even if you asked them to check they probably wouldn’t bother!

Careful you dont put a clutch and box and cambelt etc in, only for the injector pump to fail a month later,
It's another 500 quid if it does....

Sounds similar to dads, it was a linkage issue, wasn’t too expensive of a repair and quite common apparently.
