Belted Galloways or something else?

So the other half has started looking at cows..... It was only a matter of time haha. its better than Llamas but thats a whole other story.

The preferred breed so far is belted Galloways, our land ranges from marshland/ salt marsh through to normal type grassland and very sandy almost dune like in places. Would Galloways suit this type of environment or would something else be better? Longhorns have also been mentioned. There's very little shelter in some of the fields so hardy is a must, winter out or minimal requirement for housing even better. Must be a native, rare breed a bonus but doesn't have to be. He's not overly keen on highlands but I don't mind them.
Any suggestions?

Possibly Herefords but maybe not quite hard enough for you. Maybe you could get a couple of different breeds to compare
I quite like them but not really his cup of tea. If I mention red and whites he'll go down the longhorn route again. I suppose they could always wear a horse rug.... Wouldn't be the first time I've rugged up a cow haha.

Where are you based?

I'd quite happily assist with any info or visits ref any type of Galloways but other good and hardy natives are available

You need something that suits the conditions and has a market

I have a chap who bought some red Galloway cows and a young Riggit Galloway bull in North Wales. PM if I can put you in touch

Would you not look for some Welsh Blacks?

I know a lady with some Sheeted Welsh in Worcester if those might be of interest ?

Being deadly serious and not because it is another what breed thread, have you considered LIncoln Red. I have sold Lincoln's to Wales, they are hardy and will live out all year. They are also docile and easy to handle for a novice. There are a herd or 2 in Wales that would be willing to show you around, ring the society office for information and there numbers.
