Berlin calls for glyphosate ban in the EU

The move comes after the European Commission's proposal this week to renew the authorisation of the powerful herbicide for ten years.

“In the context of threats to biodiversity, the German government has called for a European exit from glyphosate and warned against heterogeneous levels of protection in the EU,” the Ministry of Agriculture said.

Would a ban in Europe push up prices of commodities?

The coalition contract signed at the end of 2021 by the Social Democrats (SPD) of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the Greens, who hold the agriculture portfolio, and the liberals (FDP) already stipulates that glyphosate "will be withdrawn from the market by at the end of 2023" in Germany.

Frankly, Scholz should have known better than to hang German farmers out to dry by giving the Green Party the whip hand over rural issues and farmers futures.

It's patently obvious that when he was young he didn't have a Scots Granny telling him "You'll be known by the company you keep"...

We will just put the whole farm down to Sfi environmentle options
Roundup ready gm maize and soya will be imported instead of using uk crops
And yet when politicians are told that this will happen inevitably, they put pig lipstick on and say it’s unintended consequences when it happens.

Serious question, IF glyphosate were to be banned in the EU, do you think other countries worldwide would follow?
It would be great to hear from US, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand TFF members on this .
I ask as what’s the point in the EU (of course the uk would follow)banning glyphosate unless the rest of the world follows.:scratchhead:

No the rest of the big Ag producers would be laughing and filling the production gap .
The german greens are out to force their happy clappy pie in the sky policies on the rest of the EU ..
Local MF dealers is a nest of euroskpetics .
Two mechanics told me that europe is fuccked and qoute " we should follow the Brits out " .
With the way things are going that sentiment could be increasing .
