Best laptop

What would be the best laptop for photo editing, pictures taken with an iPhone and a digital slr trying to treat the wife cheers daz

Really depends on what photo editing software it will be running.
If it's going to be Photoshop, for example, have a look on the adobe web site for the minimum and recommended hardware specs.

A high end Intel core i5 will do it, core i7 even better. Or go with the AMD eqiuvelant, more bang for your buck that way.
Bare in mind that photo editing software is also highly dependent on the graphics card as well.

I'm no laptop expert but I spent a while recently looking for one with a 17" screen. Almost lost the will to live looking for something reasonably priced at that size of screen. We wanted something on top of most jobs but found that they were either a bit lacking in memory/battery/processor/something else unless you blew the budget on a gaming laptop. Eventually plumped for this LG jobby:
We're delighted with it. Superb battery life and shockingly light as a feather, an odd combination. Looks good too.

As above, depends on the photo editing software.

If the wife likes Apple phones she may prefer a Mac because she is already used to their ecosystem. You will want an i7 in all honestly.

Don't panic about the screen you can always buy a full size monitor and plug it in.
