Best Stockmans Tractor

I am thinking of changing the tractor. For a long time now we have gone with Zetors. I like the fact they are cheap and not too difficult to fix. We also have a good dealer nearby.

That said they don't like quite as cheap anymore and we have had problems with the most recent one. What do people feel is the best available around the 100hp 20K mark. It would do a small amount of loader work (we have a tele handler) bit of muck spreading, slurry spreading, rolling, topping but no major field work and very little traveling on the road.

Unfortunately 20k don't go that far now in tractor terms. A Zetor man near me has changed for a Case said was a better deal as said before Zetor not cheap anymore

You've not included the loader? Another £5,000 for a Q31...

Realistically, you're gonna struggle to find a decent loader tractor for £20,000 - hard though it is to believe.

sorry to hear you've had issues with your Zetor is there anything we can try to help you with?

approx £22500 would get you a great Major 80 plus a bit for a loader, also like some one mentioned we do have a few units at an on farm price this month.

Well 20K is what I wanted to spend. May not be what I have to spend. The Zetor I would have wanted, our dealer was looking for 27K. I like the look of the one FF's Dealer suggests although slightly less power than I would have liked.

Interesting someone suggested a Class. I saw one advertised recently that ticked the boxes for little over 20K but I was told to steer clear as they had poor reliability and a bit too much of the clever stuff for what I would want.

To clarify loader work. We have a small block cutter we use for the pit. Handy for a few reasons keeps things tidier at the pit face and in the cattle shed and most important easier to drop a block in a round sheep feeder. We could adapt it to fit the telihandler however we like the back up for emergency.

The on farm price ones are a bit interesting been looking at them tonight (offshore on night shift if you are wondering about my reply times). If I was going to break the bank I would have preferred a 100hp one. Someone was telling me that they were all more or less the same engine and lower HP ones could be upped a bit. Is that true or would you be risking any warranty.

What is making me look into tractors at the moment is a failed Cylinder head. Needs reconditioned at the very least. Recent problems with the hand break all the levers seized up, took a bit of removing and freeing up, then setting up the breaks again after finished. Few bits have seized up over the years that don't have grease nipples. Part of it is our own fault but some of it is not like the pistons on the lifting arms that got very stiff (still not great even after having them overhauled). More distant problem with gearbox although that was fixed cheap enough it still worries me a bit.

Over the years the Zetors have served us well enough but if you don't try other things you do suspect the grass might be greener.
