Joskin, Veenhuis(sp?) and Samson are the ones that spring to mind. I have Joskin 16000l/3500gal with steering axle, 8 inch filler arm with turbo pump, 14,000l/min vacuum pump and 16m boom and have to say I think it a great machine. The potential permutations are endless!

Depends what your budget is, vacuum tanker or fibre glass tanker. We run 4 tankers all are different makes and all got different application methods on the back. If you can be a bit more specific I will try and give you my best opinion.

Look on slurrykat website they've got a fair spec 4000 gallon tanker in the used stuff can't mind if it had docking pod but sure it had a doda pump on it

when you say docking arm... do you mean simple side autofill or top boom that can stretch over and into pits/tanks?
simple docking arm then herron, abbey, hispec
top boom then head for euroland
for a simple tanker... euroland tankers wont be one bit better than irish offerings and may even be worse

Think it means wee arm for automatic connection to umbilical pipe.
I recommend heron but have no experience of others in that size

No matter what kind you buy they can all have problems,Getting them to sort out the problem can be a headache more so in it begain's with a J on the side and cost a hell of a lot more money than the rest of them
I’m have had just same thing with that make of tanker..
Poor back up from the tanker company(not the dealer).
Far from the best..for the money..

Its the same with every bit of machinery thats why we do all our tanker repairs in house. Vacuum tankers are easier to work with nothing to go wrong with them but the bauer fibre glass tanker is a bit more tricky with all the electrics

nc and connor do very nice tanks have triaxle models aswell

why go tri-axle??
there is no mandate for running tri-axle in the uk and in fact if you get pulled on weight the tri-axle will be able to carry at least 1.5t less than a twin-axle, maybe as much as 2t less by the time wheels/tyres and axle + any other gubbings are deducted from the gross weight of the tanker

But is any 4000 gallon tanker road legal? Are they not all too heavy?

I'm afraid anything over approximately 3000 gallon will be illegal as you are over the 18.29 max trailer weight assuming the tanker is about 5 tons. I know the max gross is 30ish tons but the max trailer wasn't changed. You were able to argue that a tanker was a trailed appliance rather than a trailer due to its ability to spread but they've capped the trailed appliance rules to 14 tons I believe.
Don't know if it's the best but major is worth a look. What ever make, As long as they have a good strong chassis and good quality running gear that's able to take the weight. Spec it well and get it galvanised and u can't really go wrong.

Know of one that the drawbar cracked on a few years ago, was at Kelly’s of boris a while after that and seen they had a pallet of new draw bars in their yard

did look at the euro glass fibre tankers but...
serious ££££££ (more than double nae treble or more than the same irish offering at the same size)
lobe pumps faster but a lot more £££££
limited option to put on over hedge booms without more £££££ and more kg's than the herron setup
as this forum is suggesting there were more horror stories on axles/running gear, chassis, drawbars than on irish machines that have done same amount of work
no real sign that going fibreglass was going to reduce weight by more than a few hundred kg and without the option of a lightweight over the hedge boom
--
a tidy irish tanker at 5 years old will sell to a dairy/beef farmer whereas the same farmer has no interest in complex euro tanker.
--
if used on the road at all then the big euro tankers with all bells and whistles are simply jailbait
much better / nearer the laws with slimline irish offerings

We have a 3000 gallon Hi Spec tanker , tandem axle pulls well on the road and is good in the field ,has done a lot of work as it has been out on hire a lot , so lots of different people using it, only problems we have had which were sorted out by Hi Spec at 18 month old were a few broken U bolts, rust on the steering axle ram , air load sensing valve and air brake mounting Brackets cracking , all replaced with new H/D parts , which are fitted to all new tankers ,
