Get a few of these each year, save some ewes depending on how soon I catch it. I understand it is caused by E coli in the environment. Ewes are romneys and whilst crutched out are still carrying a bit of wool near the udder, they like to lie around at the base of the trees and under the hedges which have bare soil. Is it just one of those things or is there something I can do to prevent it.
Losing ewes/nursing them through/dealing with the lambs is a fair bit of extra work, as is searching round on the look arounds to make sure one hasn't sloped off to die somewhere. Would be good to try and do something about it.
I made the mistake earlier in the week of thinking it was all going smoothly!
Thanks
