Blackgrass weed wiper

So I had a silly idea when I was spraying and seeing little blackgrass heads poking out. Would it not be possible to seed wipe with roundup like we do on sugar beet against weed beet. Just as they poke above before the blackgrass seed is viable would this work. Let the brains tick and dismissal begin.,,,

My Land lords brother runs a Surfer ,,it fits on the front linkage and somehow strips the seed heads of ,,never seen it but he has been using it with great success

I think the version that mounts on a SP sprayer has the most legs. Add a couple of jockey wheels and it would be evry easy to use.

I was just going to suggest that myself. if the seed was cut off now it would have time to germinate then a immediate post harvest pass with roundup.

or I might be totally wrong.

One of those jobs that is time sensitive ,,do it before the seed is viable ,,like weed beet ,allways said after 21st august was a waste of time as it had was shedding

This thought might be total rubbish as I don't know much about genetics but....... Surely if you weed wipe/ mow the tallest blackgrass heads off you will naturally select for shorter blackgrass plants as they are the only ones that will survive. Hence it will only work short term. Not sure if that's correct but if every human over 5"10 was killed we would eventually have a shorter population would we not?

The shorter plants are just hiding as they have not reached full height/maturity.
I tried this technique with a hand held hedge cutter last year (a patch near the house as the electric cable was not very long) and what happened was i ended up cutting it about 4 or 5 times as yet more ears emerged.
It is also important to grow the shortest possible variety (irrespective of yield) to achieve any sort of result.

Quite right, the upside is BG plants that are shorter are less competitive.
