Blue Texel with a snotty nose

My Blue Texel Tup has quite thick snot coming from his nostrils, never both at the same time , doesn't seem to bother him much and no high temp ect. I just started out with Blue Texels last year and wondered if this was a breed thing. I've given him a shot of antibiotic and a shot of metacam , as i say he seems ok in himself. Any help would be appreciated.

Ivermectin kills nasal bots iirc. No idea how you would diagnose them though.
Neilo , is bot fly a common ailment as i've never had the issue before. Is there anything specific to avoid reoccurrence, i will be moving my sheep soon to another location now the field has greened up. Are they susceptible to bot fly all year round or is it a seasonal (early spring) issue.
Any info is helpful thanks.

Sorry, no idea. It's a parasite, and I've never had anything to do with it, only spoken to others that have had bother.

Google?

Blue Tex and most other texel derivatives can get runny noses if on hard feed as they tend to inhale their food as they are very greedy. Is he on a coarse mix ration or sheep nuts? Coarse mix with it's little particles can trigger a hayfever like snot. By this time of year he shouldn't be needing it (if indeed he's on any feed), so if he is on bag food stop it and see if he clears up. If you need food to handle him, once a week will keep him interested in following you.

Years ago, bought a Beltex ram from up North which came with nasal bots. He was snotty, and seriously lacking in energy. Vet had a long think before diagnosing, and prescribed ivermectin - which cured him. He didn't need antibiotic.

As @Longlowdog says, the diagnosis was after thinking about inhalation of meal, on account of snubby noses and overstuffed nasal passages as a consequence.

Thankfully, the bots can't have hatched, because we've never had a case since. We didn't start using ivermectins for a while after, either, but his was the first dose given on the holding.
