Body Swap Trailers

But we would swap bodies 2-3 times per year, a hooklift wouldnt be much benefit but would be a large weight penalty and probably financial as well

It might open up other opportunities as the hook is more versatile. I’m a bit out of the loop now but historically body swap systems were more money than a hook.

I was thinking about this today, how about a cable lift like you see on the Yank trucks, no need to jack up to change bodies just lift it on without all the extra weight of a hooklift, stored safely on the floor when not is use.

The only body swap one to consider is stronga. I would still look for a second hand hoof lift. Once you get it you do everything with it from moving stuff on a flat to moving timber.

We had a quote from Stronga in 2010, £20k for a chassis, 15t bin and a flatbed for £19k.

Enquired again in 2016 but they’re not interested in making one with a 2.55m wide body. They’re about 2.65m from memory which is no use behind a Fastrac.

£19k for a bin and flat bed for a hook lift is daylight robbery. A new proper 20t grain body with hydraulic tailgate directly off a grain trailer is around £8k depending on exchange rate and a flatbed about £2k.
If you just want volume without a hydraulic tailgate then get one from a UK bin manufacturer and you’ll be less than £3.5k for 20t.
As I said there’s 3 x 20t hydraulic tailgate containers, 2 x 15t skip containers and a 20t hook-lift in the classifieds.

That price included a chassis. At your prices that’s £9k for an all singing all dancing chassis which isn’t bad. But as I said that price is 9 years old.

As for second hand hooklifts, there are plenty about but they are normally 20t plus units that are too big, reducing the legal payload.

Your post said £20k for a hook-lift which is quite cheap depending on spec and then £19k for a 15t body and flatbed so £39k total?

What I’m saying is that the bin price is extortionate. And again as for weights a 20t ‘lift capacity’ with 24t air suspension on super singles can be under 5t unladen weight which is very similar to a 20t standard trailer.

Body swap system ‘were’ a lot more so they must of come down in price.

Apologies - my post was meant to say £19k for a chassis, 15t bin and flat bed. That’s a complete body swap system.

Edit - that’s what you get for trying to do 3 things at once.
