I don't really see them as partys to be honest. One of them seems to be he walked into a room and his wife had arranged a cake and all the people working there sang happy birthday in the same room. Another one was people who had been working together all day anyway sat in the garden had some wine and some cheese.

I'd agree its not a great look but then again its not really a big deal either - the whole thing was a load of rubbish
This wasn't a party

Maybe if you'd lost a couple of relatives to non covid ailments who you couldn't visit you might not be so charitable to the piece of sh1t.

The thing is this is about more than just Boris. There was a world and media pressure from a lot of influential quarters to lockdown (because it was in their interest) and I actually don't think he was able to overturn anything without consensus and it was clear he wasn't particularly pro lockdown.

I don't think you should not have been able to visit dying relatives. I think the whole think was totally over the top and it was chinese imported idea of colossal silliness. There are a lot of forces out there who want to restrict human freedom of choice etc which has been hard won over centuries in the West. I'm glad Boris had those "parties" because it proves how stupid the collective idea of lockdown was.

We had a frickin BLM protest during lockdown for goodness sake

Strange that lulu whatshername, their interior designer, was also at the birthday party, strange when none employees always have to be booked into the work area of government buildings. I imagine the level of security is even higher in no.10.

And what happened to the protestors?

Ok so you don't think the party was a big deal, then why did Boris find it necessary to lie about it, why not just stand up when first asked in the HoC and say, "yes I had a number of parties so what, get over it". Or is it a case that he lied cause he knows it a big deal ?
I think he's like some pedigree cattle breeders, he's afraid to tell the truth in case it will hold him back.

It's not so much about the rights and wrongs of the situation as the fact that he made the rules, stood on that podium and explained how vital it was that we followed them and then completely ignored his own rules and carried on as normal while the rest of us put our lives on hold and made sacrifices to do our bit.

I fully understand on the one hand how a few drinks after work for folk who’d been in close proximity all day is a relatively trivial matter which had relatively little risk in spreading the disease but these were the folks setting the rules, Borris was on tv at 5 most nights telling folk to follow the rules yet they weren’t following these rules themselves. No great harm done there in the grand scheme of things but when set against the fact that folk couldn’t be with their dying relatives in their final hours the fact that those who devised the rules blatantly ignored the rules it really is quite disgusting.

I’m not convinced it’s a matter to be calling for the PM’s resignation and others over but it is a matter than many should and will judge them for at the ballot box in the future for they have shown themselves to be complete hypocrites.

I just can’t believe there have been so many of these gatherings of people who run the country and it would seem not one of them had thoughts or the guts to say we really shouldn’t be doing this.
Bad enough if no one even thought they were doing wrong, if someone did speak up at the time and was ignored that’s even worse

Of course plenty of folk up and down the country we’re doing likewise, ignoring the rules at times to suit themselves but they weren’t the ones preaching about how necessary it was to follow the rules.
One thing is very evident, those who govern us are unable to lead by example.

As someone said earlier, if he'd said we had a few drinks after work in the office, same people who'd been working all day. That would have ended it.
But he lied, he always lies and keeps lying. That is the problem!

She was probably there working anyway.

I dunno. I think its all a bit pantomime to make a big deal of the cake etc. As far as I can tell these people were all working in the same office anyway. Its not a great look and the rules were ridiculous anyway but for me its not a big deal. A far bigger deal is the excess care home deaths from chucking people out of hospital in stupid panic.
