Cant really remember much before Blair, but when was the last popular prime minister? One that everyone loved and and could say nothing against? Is such a thing possible in such a divided country? Im not defending him, but if Boris was down the road, would the public not continue to whinge and moan about whatever the next ones faults is?

No politician stays popular for ever in any country, the uk is no more divided than any other.

Even if there was a leader who everyone could like, it is certainly not going to happen for a long time after something as divisive as a referendum.
