Boris Johnson's Resignation Letter

New York Times .. "Petrified of being outflanked, Mr. Johnson followed suit"

Well the obvious thing is that Gove showed his true colours as a back stabber. Just before the Chequers meeting Gove was tipped equal with Javid for next Conservative leader.

Gove's vote mainly came from Brexiteers .. post Chequers Gove's support has gone into reverse.

Gove's finished .. he won't be the next leader, it took some time for Johnson to be able to gauge the reaction. He couldn't move until he knew the main Brexit contender was nullified.

Gove has been outflanked by himself, untrusted by anyone with only one friend called Mrs May - well Juncker & Merkel probably as well.

Johnson is able along with his Brexiteer clan to totally hamstring Mrs May .. even if May survives a leadership challenge she doesn't have enough votes to counter Brexiteers. She'll never get a policy through parliament ever again unless Labour support her.

If the Brexiteers split from the Conservatives .. that's it .. Mrs May doesn't have a government.

Uhm I think that was UKIP.

Conservatives have in the past been called the party of business, enterprise and liberty. In their present Brexit machinations they seem the opposite in all three.

I am a little unsure if he has it in himself to be a great PM.
But I think he is the man to get Brexit over the line.
He can sell ( unlike May ) he has vison ( unlike May )
I think he is the man for the moment in the way Churchill was the man for the war but not the peace. .

“Never in the history of human endeavour, has such a denigrating comparison been made between Winston Churchill and a self serving, hollow, shallow, imposter like Boris Johnson” ....

No requirement for rhetoric, the 'sell' ended on June 24 2016; nor cheap Latin and quotes from Kipling. What use is rhetoric, bluster and buffoonery. Hey ho - probably ideal leader for the Conservatives.

I think you might be surprised.

It's of course not just Johnson on his own, something will happen where the Brexit MPs will coordinate Mrs May's downfall. Even if she stays she'll not have the numbers to put through policy even with the DUP.

She'll end up doing nothing for years.

I personally like Johnson but at times he's a bit of a knob .. but still, compared to someone like Bush or Blair he's pretty good. I don't have enough evidence on Mrs May but I do feel "in my water" that both Mrs May & David Cameron have done serious damage to civil liberties & freedom of speech - time will tell.
Never liked Blair but he was 100 x the operator that BoJo even thinks he is

Yes Blair was a good operator .. but behind the mask Blair is mad, a liar and without morals.

I wouldn't personally dream of putting on a face, take me as I am.

I think I am correct on Mrs May .. she's been a two faced "Progressive". It will take a 4x4 to remove her from number 10.

He's a lawyer. Straw is in the same mould. One day I hope I live long enough to hear the full facts about extraordinary rendition during their "reign"

I just hope one day somebody creates a single purpose political party to put Blair and his cabinet - other than Claire Short & Robin Cook - in prison .. and we all vote for it.

Wouldn't that put the cat amongst the pigeons.

I don't think we will ever hear the truth because I think a lot still goes on that we would find unpalletable.

o_O at least we can always trust rep's...

Edited to add: Blair is loathed at the Bar and despised at Lincoln's Inn - my Inn too - where we had his portrait removed from its place of honour at the entrance to Hall ( :angelic: ), although it wasn't shifted to the gent's as some suggested...
