I use the 3 in 1 tubs for orf and cocci, I will need a prescription from your vets and when I ordered some about a months ago they were around £35 per 14kg tub but to be honest they last ages cause the ewes don't really touch them but the lambs go mad for them. I use around 2 per 100 lambs from Feb through to may, don't tend to get cocci either so they must work.

Prescription all sorted with vets. I can pick them up from their office in Exeter Market so they are about £28 a pop.

No minimum I think. They've had an office in the market and the old market for 40 plus years I should think. I always pick up my order there on a Friday as I'm there.

IME the tubs arn't as palatable as frotubs

They're not supposed to be palatable, that's the beauty of them IMO. Lambs will go mad at them when they have a cocci challenge, taking in a good dose of Deccox as they do so. Once each lamb's challenge has diminished, they take less of the buckets. I suspect it's down to mild dehydration attracting them to the salt, then the Deccox killing the cocci challenge off will reduce the attraction to the salt.:scratchhead: Anyway, they appear to work very effectively IME.

Want to try these this year.

How many lambs per bucket?

I think @neilo yiubyse them??

I put out about 1 per 100 lambs (ish) when they are 5-6 weeks old, or thereabouts. I've always found that if they don't need them for cocci treatment, then they hardly take them (the cost would be crazy otherwise:eek:). I've just had an invoice for the 15 I had delivered, which I would expect to do next year's lambs as well. They were just over £27 each, plus a vet scrip. I did try to get a free delivery on account of the recommendations I put on here, but I didn't get anywhere.:D

I never see anything other than a few tiny orf scabs on lambs' noses (which quickly clear up) and I haven't seen a 'proper' cocci scouring lamb in years, thank goodness.

I use the 4-in-1. Agree they don't seem very palatable like normal licks e.g. supalyx etc.so they last a good while. I think the advice now is to put them out for a few weeks when the risk is high, then take away for a few weeks, then back out so you're not constantly medicating. Not cheap but worth every penny.

My cocci bucket provider recommends buckets out at the beginning of lambing untill the lambs are 6 weeks.
Any truth in this method?
Had cocci years back and this method seemed to stop it.
But last year had a high cocci count in 8 week old lambs

I've always found the danger period for cocci is when lambs are 4-6 old, and onwards. IIRC there was an idea of giving deccox to lambing ewes once, to clear them out and to (maybe) help with toxo reduction. Deccox is too expensive to include in ewe feed IMO and they will hardly take any of the DB buckets, not enough to clear any cocci up anyway.
Years ago, we used to feed Rumevite Summer Mag + Deccox (no longer available) to all the ewes after lambing, to feed the ewes and to clear cocci up from the lambs. They were almost too effective though, as the lambs were constantly nibbling (was a feed block rather than medicated mineral bucket), kept completely clear of cocci and never received a challenge to build a natural immunity. They would succumb to cocci after weaning, or when the blocks were stopped. With the medicated buckets, they get a mild challenge before being cleared, so develop a proper immunity.
