Don't see many new additions to the Cogent section of BF. The competitors catalogue was full of them when it was released. With many new additions coming from a frequent poster on here from Kernow.

Our programme is small, yet growing every year following the level of sales we have. We have a couple in the pipeline and genomically test in the region of 50 Friesian Bulls per year from the UK Ireland, Germany and Holland

Friesian as in over 95% or this mix that seems to be called friesian that are 5,10,15% something else?

Lady from Cogent regularly speaks to my answer machine telling me which bull should be using without having seen one of my cows or knowing what relation the lastest is to my herd.

I only seem to purchase straws from people who have milked cows, so they have a good idea what a cow looks like.....

Happy to come out and look at your herd Sid if you feel it will help the team at HQ tailor bull selection so it meets your needs and goals to drive the performance and profitability of your herd forward.

In regards to percentage breed society regulations put Friesians at 87.5% Friesian blood.

68% of of Cogents Friesian range are over 95% Friesian with two at 100% and all are Friesian and Holstein blood, not anything else.

@RPB Are there any other bulls in the pipeline that will lift stature like Kirkby Pax, there are far too many bulls that are minus on stature.

Hi Westwards

Yea there are pleanty in the cogent and genus portfolio's most bulls in the cogent range increase stature.

Bulls I would reccomend having a look at would be the number 1 type sire Aintree Patrick; combines two of the best Blackisle families the Paulines and the Lauras.

Kirkby Premier the most complete friesian on the market

And Goonhilly Joseph a massive fatvand protein improver and number two PLI genomic young sire.

All three available sexed too

I'm fairly sure that Goonhilly Josh is particularly good on stature and strength, isn't that right @Friesianfan ?

Cheap to...

Than you @Cows 'n grass . He'd be a great cross for jerseys:whistle:

Yes indeed, Josh is from the same sire as Pax but has far better locomotion and feet and leg scores. He is also higher on pli and a good positive on fertility unlike Pax. Josh scores in the top three for stature but unlike Pax has wide chests as well. I think you would struggle to find a better all round bull than Josh.

I milk cows for my day job! I sell semen too! Two bulls available at the moment

What's the other bull you have at the moment?

I would be quite tempted to try a few straws of Josh but his stature is the bit that puts me off. I don't want my first crosses J x F to be over 500kg.

On average kiwi Friesians still seem to have the edge on solids % over the bf so that's what I'm buying at the moment but it will be another 16 months before I'm milking any mongrels so I may find I don't like them.

I have a few collycroft solo heifers to calf in the next month. Any being milked or reports? Also am using a bull called Dovea Jubilaris. No calves yet but he has some serious figures

Yes Josh will produce big cows. The other bull I've got is Dexter. He's from one of my favourite old cows. She's done lactations with over 800kg solids on my system and his sire is Blackisle Glen albyn, one of the best bulls the breed has seen.
