Curently on track for 9,200 litres and currently doing 4.5% butterfat and 3.72% protein - all fresh cows and heifers nothing staler than 150 days.
Hoping the fat will keep rising as time goes on to average 4.8% over the lactation. My protein never really changes.
Hoping to do 650-700kg of solids over their lactation going forwards. Perhaps more if my spring calvers pump the milk out like I'm hoping they will.
Fantastic yields and milk quality there, do you feed any cake then? Struggle sometimes to maintain protein % but no doubt we are not feeding to potential

In that case BF is a no brainer. My experience of NZ fr is they are not a patch on modern BF for feet or udders, you can find BF bulls who will put plenty solids on if that is your contract. Good fertility, potential high cull value if you have space to fatten, good calves etc.
Id say judd has a top class herd if uve a good herd of any breed it will outperform average of other breeds by far

@Walwyn Just used my first garfield straw on zara, fingers crossed it sticks! She's doing plenty though so might be a bit of a push.

She's got a contender daughter I'm serving atm 🙂

Some of my favourite friesian calves at the moment

Newbarton Jake Pauline 4th calf from Aintree Chad pauline 4 BFE90 (classified on her third lactation, hopefully classify again soon!)

Newbarton Braveheart Pauline 4th calf from Aintree Chad Pauline 2 BFE90 (again classified on her third lactation). Maternal sister to Aintree patriot Pauline number 1 PLI heifer in the UK for the past 4 proof runs 👌

Newbarton Jake winnie 4th calf from premier winnie VG85 (as a heifer, hasn't been classier since - should move up a few points I think!)

@Jdunn55 what bulls you using out of the cogent camp this year?
Mint as heavily as I can considering he's out of a chad.

Ready for it as soon as I can! He's in a production pen so won't be long hopefully!

I like trailblazer quite a bit too and I really, really like my braveheart calves so am using him as my outcross bull.

I'm also really impressed with my jake calves. I won't be buying anymore though as I prefer ready for it as a production bull.

Using garfield too, but he's limited again due to him being out a chad.

Those are my main ones, there's some conventional straws of benny red and perky in the tank but they're mainly for decoration.

What are you aiming for and what are your cows by and ill see if I can make some recommendations?

In summary for what I'm using:
Garfield = RC cows without chad in pedigree
Trailblazer = high type cows to make something a little different
Mint = anything else without chad in pedigree - very solid all round bull
Braveheart = anything else WITH chad in pedigree - really like him for being different and still solid

As soon as I've got ready for it in the tank nothing else will get a look in for the cows for a second or two though 😂

Do any of u think the bf breed has lost its way some look like frail holsteins.Ive stopped useing and am only using dutch bulls right or wrong but they have proper strength.
we have milking hfrs/cows, from Bas 8, Sem 17 and Bernard 26.
bit short and dumpy, nothing to write about milk yield, as hfrs, but improve with 2nd lactation, reminds me of friesians from the past, but with better udders !!

there's a very noticeable difference between this years fr hfrs, v the hf ones, in yield. That seems to be the same with the more fr type cows, v the hol ones. Still milking pretty well though, FR types prefer to add weight, hols prefer to milk !

our old 09 friesian, who shouldn't have got i/c, just clocked in 40 litres, and the bull caught her, determined to stay .......................
