Broken limestone gatepost

We have a 600mm square limestone gatepost with a large piece broken off it. Has anybody repaired something like this using epoxy resin building up over a framework of stainless dowels drilled into the post.

Have you got the piece that broke off ?
How big is it ?
If its reasonably small it should be stuck back in one piece
if its larger it should have a dowel hole or holes drilled in it and hole/s drilled into the post.
use stainless steel dowels.
The best adhesive to use is called Jolly mastic. It helps the join blend in if you mix some of the dust from drilling the dowel holes in to the mastic.

No I haven’t got the piece that broke off. This is triangular in shape about 400mm square at base and 600 high which is why I need to build up with something like resin. Would mix stone dust in to get a match, but really wanted to know if anyone has done this successfully and what they used

if the missing piece is that large I can't see that any repair will ever match very well. The amount of resin required would be huge and would stick out like a sore thumb afterwards. Why not drill and put in about 4 dowels at differing angles held in with epoxy resin, them some plywood shuttering nearly to the top allowing enough space to trowel concrete in, insert concrete and tamp in using a stick through the hole at the top of the shuttering. Concrete will eventually weather, where resin never will.

I'm a West System fan. I've fixed a 'lot' of stuff using this method. Preparation is the key. The six P's are paramount. This will fix your limestone no probs.
I did one of their courses many years ago which was fun and enlightening.
