I bought a Lister bale elevator off a local farmer which hadn't a run since the 70s, I checked for a spark, nothing, removed the flywheel, cleaned and gapped the points, refitted flywheel, No Spark. I then purchased a secondhand Briggs & Stratton Electronic coil off ebay, and fitted it, which is easy as you don't have to remove the flywheel, and away we went, huge blue spark, I then clean out the old petrol tank, fuelled up and away it went after 40 years!

Cool. I remembered your Boxing Day thread about fitting an electronic coil in lieu of the points.

The wear pad on the cam to operate points on mine has worn away so points not opening enough to get gap. Any ideas out there? The elevator does very little but cam be handy for last few bales into the shed!

You wont need a cam with the electronic conversion, I don't think? Unless you want to try and build the old cam up, by brazing and file to shape.

You definitely don't need a cam, as the coil works off the magnets on the outside of the flywheel, you can remove the old points and condenser if you wish, but there is no need to remove the flywheel, just cut off the condenser wire...
