As he and I are told we are indistinguishable on the phone, I am happy that our accent reflects where our family have lived for four centuries.

We have never before been criticised for our accent as far as I am aware. Samuel Johnson believed that the Lichfield accent was one of the purest in England iirc.

I don’t suppose you live close to Stoke @delilah ?

Anyone else hear Clive on r4 this morning ? Definite twang in there. I think their introduction of the "Staffordshire farmer" drags the rest of our fair county down somewhat. :) .

I'm so glad despite Americanised TV and lazy homogenisation of everything from house building style to how we try to impress our peers how we speak that we still have regional identity in the UK - it's part of your identity and your roots and long may it continue

I'm amazed how some folks never get a chameleon accent and retain the accent from where they were brought up. My North Devon raised 70 year old neighbour is as broad now as when she left 50 years ago
