We are just on concreting a yard which will have a 12 ton bin, got the spec for concrete, 4m 4m x300mm thick, but can we put it on the slight fall like yard so that water runs to drain,.

Will they just put Packers down when they drill and bolt it down?

Only talking like 10-20 mm fall in size of bin. 1:100 fall on yard
Not really wanting pad to sit higher

First thing I’d do is lay 150 mm and tell them is 300.

I laid a pad here with a bit of fall, the bin was levelled with shims when delivered

Wouldn’t advise it. Mate of mine came out 1 morning to bin over the wall in the field when a leg had gone down through the concrete. bagging 12 ton of feed out of a tower on its side isn’t fun.

I don’t have any. It’s a 12 tonne bin not 150 tonne.

I knew it wasn't really, suppose a buildings less weight but just pack them upto a level any way, didn't want them winging too much!

You don’t put reinforcement under a bin.

out of interest do you know the load capacity per m2 of 150mm concrete?

Do these tanks put all their weight on 3 or 4 6 inch square legs? Or is the weight evenly distributed?

Yard on a similar fall here, just put packers under the legs. That was Collinson, expect EB would be the same.

To carry approx 65t on a 7m² flat surface of the tank, a feed bin puts a lot more weight down on 3 or 4 small legs, there was no way I was skimping on the concrete for it.

That’s fair enough. I would perhaps ask why they don’t have larger feet on the legs?

Put more in than that - not a structural engineer but have seen a base fail - not mine.

My buildabin is on 3 legs and 8 inches of concrete on top of an old yard.

The collinson I've just put up is a 3 leg 17m³ so maybe a little smaller than the 1 you're talking about but that is on 3.5x3.5x0.2m which is 2.45 cube of concrete

Only farmers would quibble another £150 to make a base for a bin worth many thousands that’s going to be filled with hundreds of tonnes of feed worth £150+ a tonne!! Just what Dad would do, lay it on 4” and wonder how the hell it fell over......
