Bull in Creep Feeder

Either a small bull or a large creep feeder? but seriously, i found that my young bull had got himself in the calf creepfeeder, luckerly i found him and could move one of the bars without the tools being needed, who knows maybe he could have got him self out of it in time ? over the years with older bigger bulls ive had, ive had a few cases of them getting their heads stuck in ring feeders, used a car jack to slightly bend the bar to release, anyone else have any similar tales to tell?

Cows ruin bars in the feeders every year, seen some good pics on here of extensions to stop them but havent got around to making some. Last month is worse when gaps are opened wide for big bull calves , i would like to tazer the worst offenders at times. Buggers will gallop across and lift there front feet off the ground reaching into the bin while im trying to fill with the loader.

Cordless grinders must be a wonderful thing for them panicky moments with a animal stuck in a feeder

I’ve had plenty of problems with you youngstock getting stuck in diagonal feed passage bars

Three wheeled pipe cutter is a much safer option, grinders tend to get pinched with an animal moving about.

Bloody cows get stuck in creep feeders here.

Most unsafe way I've seen of releasing is a bottle jack. If it was to spring when jacking open barrier, could be messy. Agree with Michael cordless grinder good for job, seen us at it with 9" plug in one from workshop.

Used to have a Hereford cow with horns like a longhorn coming back round to within a couple of inches from her jaw. Got the bars of the ring feeder in through the Gap and was dragging it round the field. After my dad cut bars out for three days running,I took control of the situation and cut her feckin horns off.

About 30 years ago dad bought 3 shop soiled feed bins cheap from burgess. We got the cows into the collecting yard as normal and left Dixie our big Charolais bull eating away in said bins. It was only when we started scraping cubicles out that we realised his head was stuck between the bars as he always used to wander off from the tractor when it was going. It was before cordless angle grinders so my dad had to hacksaw one of the bars out. Dixie was fine with the hacksaw but took exception to the hot iron filings falling on his neck. On closer inspection the head space on the end of the feed bins were smaller than the side ones (expert designers were around in them days as well). Straight after milking all the bars were sawn out.

We had a suckled calf get stuck between the bars of a ring feeder one year. Luckily it was a tinfoil IAE one so whilst we were hacksawing the top of the bar (we've no cordless grinder and he was in the field) the calf managed to break the weld on the bottom of the bar!

You want to get a cordless grinder....you won’t regret it

A sledge hammer is more than enough to dismantle IAE welds

Just give it a big hit next time :ROFLMAO:

I found a cow stuck in a feed trough yesterday. It had climbed in and obviously slipped, so had its back feet stretched out behind and front feet doing a superman. Don't know how long it had been there but it was making a pretty mournful noise...

Just recruited some muscle and tipped it out.
