Bull not doing his job!!

We bought a limo bull nearly a year ago and is now 26 months old. We kept him away from the cows for the first 3 months then slowly gave him a cow or two to practice on. We let him loose with the milkers in January and has got some cows in calf but the last few pd’ing sessions have been very poor. He is good on his feet and his very active but when he jumps a cow he just “ keeps missing”. Starting to lose time on cows now will he get the hang of it eventually or should I send him up the road and replace him. Thanks in advance for any help

Get your vet to check him out. See if his swimmers are active first before sending him on his way. But if that’s all clear then it could be a change in diet to your cows or something that made a poor batch of eggs to be produced.

I spent a hour watching him with a bulling cow yesterday he jumped her 20 times and missed the mark every time. Everything looks fine physically but he just fires over the top of her tail every time. Will speak to the breeder after the next pd session if it’s another bad one

Did you buy him at a society sale?

I had the same with a Lim bull I bought. Would jump the cow but never got in and never looked like he would. Breeder sent his vet out to do semen test but told them not much point as it could well have been fine but no use if he can't put it in the right place. Breeder culled the bull and provided me with a replacement. Happy and have bought again from him.

He's probably had a cow go down whilst he's serving her and he's bent his equipment, so now it doesn't come low enough to actually enter her when he's trying to serve, and sticks too close to his belly.

This happened to a bull we had a couple of years ago, although he got hurt when he got stuck on a gate. Rested him for a while, but he sometimes couldn't get his rod high enough to enter the cow after that. Still getting cows in calf but was a bit hit and miss.
