BYDV in wheat?

We have these strange yellowy patches in some of our winter wheat. It's only in the wheat fields that weren't ploughed after spuds. We just subsoiled the fields and drilled with a combi. Same patches in the barley where the field was prepared the same way. Is it BYDV? If so how can it spread behind spuds when there is no "green bridge"?

My worst field is ex spuds but was ploughed :scratchhead:

Despite some wheat having 2 insecticides last autumn I have lots of BYDV patches around the place, amongst the blackgrass, the place looks great!!

May be a daft question but I normally home save seed. Can the virus be spread by the seed into next years crop?

That's that theory down the drain then!

Sprayed all mine T2 today, they don't look as bad now.

I just looked at my drilling programme. It's all down to date of eme.
& drilling date.
I have two fields drilled with Kinto SP one has BYDV the other is ok drilling date is the difference.

The later drilled Deter is ok the earlier drilled Deter has a little bit came in late.
The late Nov early Dec drilled is ok.

Having said that low levels can be found in most fields.

No insecticide was used. Should have been in two fields for sure.

Well you must feel you have given it your best having sprayed twice.
Was it Hallmark ?

This is my Crusoe. You should be able to see the yellow patches. I presume they are due to bydv. This particular field, which is the worst affected, was sown in mid October and had an insecticide in early Feb. No secure seed dressing.
All my wheat, all Crusoe, has some patches of bydv, even though some was sprayed in October and February.

My crusoe is also affected, deter dressed. No autumn insecticide due to not being able to travel. Skyfall is fine.

Yes my crusoe is infected. All drilled last week October. Sky fall very much less so. Wonder if aphids infected it within days of emergence from dying mass of blackgrass, rather than flying in later.

Can you save seed from a field with bydv?
