Calf bent at knees

I'm just interested to know more - if you put your hand on the knee and pull the foot forward can you straighten the leg or is it fixed bent like that? His shoulder and elbow conformation looks odd, as though he has a very short humerus? Did someone say before that this is something seen in Limousins? Did the vet have a name for the condition? Hope he improves btw.

Yes the leg does straighten. If it helps give you a better idea this pic, taken when he was 4 weeks old, shows the leg straightened. He had just stood up a few seconds when I took it.

Vet said it is caused by lack of energy in the muscle (due to myostatin) hence why they appear to get worse after standing/running around.

Super calf. fingers crossed he will be flying by the summer, thankfully it does them no real harm but it isnt great seeing the legs shake when they get tired.
Just not something you ever factor in @Angus77. Thought when calf came out and was up sucking in record time I was home and dry. My next thought turned to pound signs [emoji386][emoji386][emoji386]

Are you giving him any physio? I’d be stretching those legs back to straight once or twice a day. Actually no - Mrs HM would be, as that’s close to her medical discipline.
He's not getting any physio. Can't see it would do any good. He sits down more than he should and when he first stands his legs are straight. It's not that he can't straighten them - more a case of legs going lax when he puts weight on them for any time.

No sure Mrs HM would be willing to chase him in the field to try. The calf can move!

If it’s okay with you, I’ll not ask her. ;-)

I've usually at least one of those knocking about.
It's a limousin thing, tight tendons linked to the F94L gene so called "profit" gene by British limousin society.
They usually can be got to beef successfully with a bit of time. I've never had to put down because of it.

Excellent, just what I was hoping to hear. At the moment I'd be happy to be able to fatten him.

Had a Charolais calf like that last October. Had knuckled over front feet as well as the bent knees going on. Splints eventually sorted out the knuckling at 7-8 weeks, bendy legs continued another couple of months after that.
Turned them out today and ran the 2/3rds of a mile up the road to the field with the rest of the cows & calves without noticing him.
I don’t suppose your vet suggested any ways of preventing the lack of energy to the muscles thing happening @sjewart?
