Ivomec doesnt seem to be clearing mine up. Got jab 3 days ago. Still itching and licking lots. Thought about shampooing it but dont know if it would help. So much dandruff and bald patches. Coat dry.View attachment 544872
I didn't mean your animal, l meant the one the one in the photo shown by Princess Pooper. Anyway l hope you do find a cure for your patient, poor thing, l have never seen anything quite like that before.

I'd use almond oil - it's even gentler on the skin than baby oil [emoji4]
Something like this? Do u put it on neat or mix it with stuff?

That's mange. Ivomec soon clears that up.
No it wasn't @Roy_H I called vet in as I thought it might be, (we have never had an animal with mange) but no other calf in the group (they were all together) was affected at all. Vet (good experienced cattle vet) checked it, didn't think it was mange but took scrapes to look at under microscope, nothing found. She was then penned separately but still able to touch the others and still none affected. She received no treatment, lost all her hair but wasn't especially itchy, the hair grew back of its own accord and no further problems.

over in Ireland they are keen on giving them a good bit and min tonic if they look like they are needing it, a wee drop a day for a young calf, I don't know who makes a good one over here but the one they say is good for young calves is tonivet . Im going to find out a good one for my [ now 2] abandoned calfs , I go on the Irish farmers page and they told me a tonic is better than a vit injection .I was thinking of your calf as well.

There's Tonavet and Growvite. Bovistart syringes for a sleepy newborn.
Had one here a few years ago started losing its hair. Had been a bit ill, scour I think. Thought it was ringworm. Vet said was just due to damage to bowel from being ill, don't worry, don't need to do anything, it'll grow back. It did just as she said and after a few weeks you couldn't tell anything had been wrong.

Im just back from 10 days away and i apologise for the poor lighting in these pics but happy to report my little lady seems better. Yes she has lots of patches but they have turned hair coloured now and i think it'll grow back. She's still doing well so im happy. She is outside day and night and cows just come in for handful of cake morning and night.

@crofteress sorry to hear about the joint ill. Ive had it in lambs and the only thing that sorted it out was a very long course of antibiotics. Even then it didnt cure them all. My fingers are crossed for you. If its just one knee each hopefully u caught it in time for them to make a full recovery.
