Not that I'll be buying them but av £24 for bw bulls last week in Holsworthy.
Don't mind 2/3 week old calves aslong as they have shape and width. Won't be many grazing types calving now.
Is the calf price downfall possibly linked to low milk price and dairy farmers using more beef straw's rather than dairy straw's?

I think it's seasonal. I've sold my calves well all summer through Facebook but been plenty going through the ring and I thought fairly good money. Just last couple weeks few had said ass fallen out if it.
Just got time on my hands which is fatal.
50 tame lambs or is that just really stupid! Gone by Easter.

Have bought a few calves out of Holsworthy recently as they are cheaper shant be there this week as just about full up so theyre bound to be cheaper. Was told milk powder going up by a fair bit so will probably forget it for a while. Should of weaned them all by the time the cows start calving and the sheep start lambing in Feb. Go for it as opportunities are few and far between and when calves shoot up in value in the new year you'll be kickin yourself if you didn't fill your shed

If you want shape and width you will be buying at the top end of the market and whilst the bottom has crashed for the 2nd grade calves it has actually got stronger for the top end ones the last 2/3 weeks..

Those Fri calves would be the ones to buy, if you buy the right one's and rear them right they could easily be worth £250 + come spring, either that or buy decent native heifers sub £100, for what you are thinking of doing getting the calf cheaply will be key.

If you are going to do it thou I would suggest buying as many as possible this week before xmas but imo if you have the space etc then I would get some bought.

I'll dig the invoice out if I remember I'm probably going back 7 or 8 years. Bought ever so many for a pound or two then a particularly white Holstein came in and he didn't have a bid I'm sure I would of had it for free but the wife didn't think that was morally correct and bid a pound:rolleyes::D
