Got a 10 day old calf that has never had a great lot of get up and go after a couple of days he stopped sucking and had a lot of dark blood type mochas in his poo so gave him a couple of shots of antibiotic and fed him with 3 feeds of rehydration fluids from the vets and he started sucking and poo back to normal, however he has been very lethargic today and looks empty again and is passing mostly dark red jelly like poo , i have given a synulx tablet any ideas what it could be

Clostridial? We had a calf like that two years ago, outcome not good, get the vet to look at him, better than losing him

You need to get plenty of fluids and electrolytes into him, a scouring calf needs a lot of fluids tubing into them....did he get plenty of colostrum ?
not very quick to his feet and not a big feeder so would have taken him a while to get a good amount , gave him synulux tablet at about 4 this afternoon would you go and give him fluids now or in the morning ,his last poo did have some yellow in it so presume he has had a bit of milk and did see him suck at dinner time

As has been said, sample and and get to the vet with it, best done at the start before antibiotic is administered, but I'd still do it.

Meantime fluids are key, do it asap.

Blood and mucous might just be from him scouring before. A sample will tell you more than any of us can.

More fluids tonight if you can, I would have thought, as it's a long time til morning, and you won't be on the vets doorstep at first light.

Good luck with him (y)

My guess would be crypto but get it tested, should be too young for cocci. There is no justification for antibiotics in scouring calves over a week old. Lots of fluids, but keep them on milk. I like the gel products you add to milk, with additional scour formula feeds in the day as needed.

Our vet put a glove on, stuck a finger up its ass, then waited till it reflexed pooped on his hand then glove inside out to keep it. It was an ai glove btw
