Calf with sore looking nose

2 month old calf we brought in as a replacement from a large milking herd. Good healthy female but been more hassle than it was worth and wont do it again. Moving the cattle yesterday noticed the calf looked a bit depressed and did cough so brought it into the shed. Just looked at it now and the skin on the nose has gone and both nostrils look red and snore some bits inflamed - any ideas? Will call vet tomorrow.

Did you check a temp? High fever'll make their nose blister and the skin peel off and be red.

I'd do that before jumping to the doom and gloom options.

Young for mucosal disease, ibr more likely. A picture would help.

Calves do stick their noses in some stupid places - I've seen chemical burns a few times in calves.

cheers - calf looks well, I have thoroughly checked it over and no discharge no scours. No havent checked temp.

I am nervous of IBR. Trouble when buying in and not the sort of thing we usually do but wont do again. I was wondering if she has stuck her nose in nettles or a rough surface. I'll see if I can get a picture later.
