Calling all the farmers that are open to having metal detectorists on their land.

If farmers and metal detectorists where in a relationship, their status on Facebook would be “It’s complicated” …. but it really doesn’t need to be! :)

I am working on a simple solution to establish mutually beneficial, solid and healthy relationships between responsible metal detectorists and farmers while taking permission requests out of farming forums.

For this I do need a little bit of help though, so I am kindly calling upon all the farmers on this forum that are actually fine with having metal detectorists on their land and are willing to help me out.

The support I need is just to be able to bounce off a couple of quick ideas and eventually help me spread the word to other farmers, if we all agree that the solution is beneficial for everyone.

If you are willing to help me out can you please let me know by responding to this post?
Many Thanks!

Hi Steve, thanks so much for your reply.
In the past 2 hours, 11 farmers have posted a listing on RelicPass (for a total of 600 hectares of metal detecting land).

With 30,000 metal detectorists and counting, RelicPass is the easiest way for a farmer to promote his or her business, learn more about the history of their land and generate additional income.

For metal detectorists it's the best way to find permission.

I hope you'll be an early adopter.
Thanks

I think what you promote is a way of detectorist and land owner to meet a you take a commision, its a very popular buisness model, but if the farmer contact clubs directly then he gets all the entrance fees without loosing to third parties commision.

Hi marshbarn, thank you. Metal detecting club are great, however and this is me personally, I grew weary of them for different reason.
I won't go into details cause I still have great respect for clubs and don't want to use this opportunity to talk bad about them. Not at all.

The commission on RelicPass is only 0.10GBP. The expected source of income for this platform is not from farmers but from sponsors.
Farmers on the other hand will have complete freedom in managing their listing, closing and opening whenever they want and no obligations whatsoever. They will have direct and personal contact with responsible metal detectorists.
Thank you for your point of view, I do appreciate all the feedback that I can get.

I just started it as a result of all the experiences I've had in the past and I feel strongly that this is the best way to connect farmers and metal detectorists in a healthy dynamic.
I don't actually mean to take anything away from clubs or anybody else, in fact RelicPass should be seen as a way to reach even more farmers than before and establish more healthy relationships, which would be beneficial for everybody, clubs included.
Ultimately it's the hobby that wins together with the farmers that remain the most important partner.

The value of the platform is in the number, the quality and the geographical reach of the listings so the more farmers the better.

Thanks for checking the website, appreciated!
