So that's the poultry industry f****d now. Just heard some twerp telling r2 listeners they shouldn't buy chicken and "accidentally" referring to the poison that's on it.
As far as I'm aware, proper cooking is all that's needed but as usual the loud mouthed panic- mongers get more publicity.

Incorrectly cooked chicken makes you ill, nothing new there then
Sure this was the case a few years ago just before Xmas, we were producing Turkey's and chickens at the time, seems any excuse to drive the price down(n)
Conspiracy theory for you, who funds the research for all these findings:censored:??

I remember seeing a survey by the food standards agency who tested pre packed supermarket chicken for bacteria and around 60% was found to be contaminated with salmonella or campylobacter.
Also saw a piece on TV the other day and someone was advocating having whole chickens only sold in packaging that could be put in the oven so consumers wouldn't have to touch raw chicken.

I think the main problem with chicken is that some people insist on washing it under a running tap which spreads bacteria all over your kitchen surfaces from the resulting spray.
If we have to introduce legislation to stop idiots from making themselves ill or injuring themselves, then I am sure living daily life would become somewhat prohibitive.

Research? You actually think that someone did some research before spotting an opportunity to grab the public's attention?????

By "public" I mean the gullible newspaper buying morons who have no idea where their food comes from or how to safely prepare it.

I'm just waiting until they get hold of the concept of the endemic e.coli bacteria in the soil which produces all their food which also lives in the air they breathe...

Wish the BBC would give it its proper name and stop referring to it as a bug. I had a dose of Campylobacter earlier this year, wouldn't recommend it to anyone, takes a few days after picking it up before you realise you've got it but it didn't come from chicken.

you only have to watch food programmes like "come dine with me" to see the problem. People very often handle meats and then handle utensils, pots and other foods without washing their hands. A disaster waiting to happen.

If the chicken industry crashed would it be such a bad thing? Cheap Chicken is the thing that drives down the price of Beef and Lamb. I for one would be happy for the whole chicken industry to crash.

As a chicken producer I for one would be happy for another bout of bse and foot and mouth while we're at it.

Why on earth do industry bodies not respond as vocally when surveys like this scaremongering report are printed, the poultry council should have been on the nail with a detailed response.

Firstly highlighting that campy is killed by proper cooking, reminding the buyer of best practice hygiene, and pointing out where the swabs/samples for this survey were taken from, Not the chicken meat as you would first think in seeing the Headline, but the packaging and the bloomin neck skin :banghead: raw plastic bag sandwich anyone?

Fingers and thumbs! The whole industry needs professional PR talking directly to consumers. Back room lobbying of politicians used to be good enough but the world has moved on! Signed A Troll

My bro-in-law is all poultry .... I deffo would not like to see him crash; A lot of hard work goes in to rearing and tending plus the whole killing / dressing / delivery side.

I don't understand this whole ... don't wash your poultry thing :scratchhead: A few years ago it was if you don't wash your meat then expect to die .... slight exaggeration there but you know what I mean . Personally I always prefer to thoroughly wash my poultry inside and out but having done so and prepared my poultry for the oven, the very next job I do is to meticulously wash and bleach down my sink, surfaces and anything else my raw meat has come in to contact with. It takes me about five minutes to do this but five minutes to ensure that no one goes down with anything nasty is no time at all.

It seems that the latest "risk" with poultry is not actually the poultry itself .... because we all know it has bacteria .... it's that people can't wash their surfaces down correctly or they can't wash the poultry without cascading water everywhere or even both  If the general public ever manage to acquire this skill you can bet your boots they will then forget that they have to cook poultry properly :banghead:

You wouldn't think that .. wash your poultry thoroughly, wash anything that comes in to contact with raw meat thoroughly and cook thoroughly was so beyond the wit of so many

A nice joint of beef this Christmas, me thinks..............

Come on you poultry farmers - stand up and counter the argument - where does the campylobacter come from? Your sheds? Or somewhere else in the supply chain? And no change for the last 20+ years..........

I heard R2 today, and without any one in the broiler camp fighting their corner, why wouldn't the house-chef go buy a joint of beef/pork/lamb instead?

You been inside a Broiler shed? Not much to base a defence on.
