Candlemass day??

Today is candlemass day, the date is halfway threw the winter calender, so up there in scotland it dry and fair, so half the winter still to come and mare! I think there is more to those saying than just old folks tales, another try saying is as the dayz lengthen, the cold strengthens, that one is true. Also oak before the ash is splash splash, but ash before the oak is soak, soak soak, that's often true as well, any other weather saying out there?

“In your barn on Candlemass Day should be half your straw and half your hay.”
Today has certainly been dry bright and sunny here, so if the saying is true we will get much more wintry weather before spring?

If ice holds up a goose before Christmas it wont hold up a mouse after.
Well Candlemass day was the best day up here since second week in Sep ,luckily we have more than half our silage left but straw is a different matter as harvest was so wet a lot of straw never got baled.

Candlemass is a tradition for the churches to bring forward all of the candles to be used for the rest of the year for a special blessing apparently.
It was also Imbolc - the Pagan festival. It marks the middle of winter and the move to spring. It is all about hoping for success in the farming season – and wishing for a fertile year ahead, the 'quickening of the year' - Here is hope. We welcome the growth of the returning light and witness Life's insatiable appetite for rebirth. - and as farmers we are beginning to notice the changes and look forward to the spring.

I am not a Pagan, but like the thinking in this!
