Hi any tricks to lining up the clutch plates on the tight side can get hub to go in but not when it's on the shaft , I know there a special alignment tool but can't seem to find one,

The plates won’t be quite central . Put the hub in Have a good look down the center & hit ithe hub with a leather hammer it it’s not central . The eye can be very good . Assemble it without the key in the shaft first as it’s easier then put it in when it’s aligned.
