Can someone be of some help, my case 5140 transmission has started playing up, while driving along the road i lost all drive and the transmission light came on, i switched off the engine and re started, and it was fine.
This did happen another couple of times fairly soon after. While driving along, the steering started to feel notch. When I did get home the tractor would hardly reverse into the shed, and now will hardly move forward either.
There are no warning lights on.
Anyone had similar problems, if so how was it fixed ?

Thanks.

The notchy steering would suggest a pressure/pump problem to me.Replace the filter first.
You really need pressure guages onto the shuttle valve block below the seat to see what pressure reading there is when the f/r lever is engaged. The list of faults is quite long. Could be a sticky shuttle valve or inching pedal or some of the other spools etc in the valve block. The tiniest of adjustment on the clutch pedal could make all the difference,or a clutch pedal switch,or a pressure switch could be playing up.Relays up in the dash may have a loose or bad connection.I worked at one back in February that would always reverse but not go forward. A diode in the wiring harness at the back of the cab eventually sorted it after replacing just about everything else, including solenoids. They can be a complete torture to sort when this problem occurs, but the steering issue might simply point to the charge pump becoming weak and thus tying in with the transmission issue.

Must have been 20+ years ago so excuse the vague memory but I seem to remember very similar symptoms to the 5140 I had all those years ago. I changed the hydraulic filters and it sorted it for a very sort time so we got the dealer out, they said it was the brake linings that had disintegrated, it did all the carting so fair amount of brake work, and I was young and drove like a maniac. It was a lumpy repair bill quoted so the boss at the time said it was next inline for replacement so we part exchanged it, so I can't tell you if the repair was correct, but it was the diagnosis they gave, they had taken it away and had it in the workshop in bits so hope they knew what they're doing.
