Case IH 785; problems getting into gear. Cheap or expensive to fix..?

Possibly viewing a Case IH 785 that is for sale. Apparently some difficulty getting into 1 gear (1-4 not high to low).

Assuming no obvious grinding noise etc- how would I assess whether it it a linkage issue ( i have read several on this forum) or something more serious inside the gearbox?Also - if a gear linkage issue - relatively cheap? All advice welcome! Tks
