The damper / clutch button on gear stick dosn't seem to be working. I only use it to change down to take the jolt out. Any ideas were to start.

It only works in top range as far as I'm aware if that's any help.

Pull the side panel off, there is bound to be a plug you can split so as to change the lever, split it there & check the button is working would be my first check.
It's only 5~6 screws in the top panel & that lets you lift it to pull the side panel off.
